Enthusiastic

“Nate thoroughly loved working as a basketball referee for THPRD. He was responsible for enforcing the rules of fifth grade basketball. Nate took the job seriously and worked hard learning the rules of the game. We are sorry to loose Nate due to budget cuts but wish him luck in all his endeavors.”

- Leslie Mundt, THPRD Coordinator

Whatever the task at hand, I firmly believe that it can be best accomplished with an enthusiastic attitude.  In the case of the current CollegePlus! internship, I am even more excited than normal for a number of reasons:

  • It is precisely the job I am looking for.  While internships in large corporations often help people specialize in an accounting sub-field, this accounting opportunity will help me gain a strong understanding of a wide variety of accounting operations.
  • It is precisely the company I am looking for.  With the medium size and the Christian culture, CollegePlus! is the embodiment of my dream company.

Self-Driven

“Nate was one of 25 bloggers I worked with on a back to school social media campaign for HP. He was highly engaged and always looking to make sure that he and others were on the right track. Nate is highly self motivated and a great team player.”

- Halley Bass, Ivy Worldwide Marketing Coordinator

When completing a task, I have made it my goal to look for ways to excel.  My philosophy on this point can be summarized in the saying, “If a thing’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.”

As a CollegePlus! intern, I will be constantly looking for ways to do the best job possible for CollegePlus!  I firmly believe that any employee, from an exalted CEO to a lowly intern, should do his utmost for his company.  “Punching the clock” has no place in my view of life.

Reliable

“Nate is a reliable and mature individual who we feel we can trust to handle challenging scenarios. In the position that Nate held, he is required to manage a fast-paced, intense environment and Nate excelled at managing these scenarios well, along with a high level of integrity.”

- Eric Putzek, Head Basketball Referee

As a Christian, I realize the moral value of responsibility – even aside from the practical value.  The important combination of honesty, punctuality, and persistence paves the only way to ultimate success in business and in life.

I look upon the internship as an opportunity to cement this reliability while providing professional service to a company I respect.

Businessman

“Nate is solutions-oriented and was proactive to formulate a plan that was beneficial to our company. He’s an excellent communicator and has a savvy business mindset.”

- Shawn Cohen, CollegePlus! Strategic Developer

Both through my extensive reading and my entrepreneurial activities, I have gained a large database of business knowledge.  While still in high school, I painted house numbers, built websites, tooled leather goods, and even published ebooks.  Since learning how to speed read, I have worked my way through many of the books on the Personal MBA reading list… besides those recommended elsewhere.

During this past year, some of my favorite business books have included:

  • The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership by John Maxwell
  • The Anatomy Of Problem-Solving by Timothy Hobbs
  • The 22 Immutable Laws Of Branding by Al & Laura Ries
  • Free Prize Inside by Seth Godin
  • Rework by Jason Fried & David H. Hansson
  • Money Talks by Alan Weiss, Ph. D.
  • Influence by Robert B. Cialdini, Ph. D.
  • The Way To Wealth by Benjamin Franklin

During my internship with CollegePlus!, I will seek to combine the general knowledge I have learned with the specific knowledge I will learn to uniquely help the company.

Learner

Nate is an industrious young man. He communicates well and takes coaching / teaching well.”

- Cory Baker, Senior Basketball Referee

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.  Indeed, Sir Francis Bacon was completely right when he declared that even the most brilliant genius has only gathered a few pebbles from the shores of the ocean of truth.  I believe that when a man stops learning, that man loses all ability to improve this world.

During my internship, I look forward to gaining a strong grasp accounting and the technical side of business.  I consider this to be an excellent opportunity because it is a symbiotic opportunity: I have valuable skills to offer CollegePlus!, and CollegePlus! has valuable knowledge to offer me.
